I watched ``Cast Away'' on DVD last night. The DTS soundtrack is simply spectacular, and is at it's best during the plane crash sequence. Even I -- who am known to suffer from flight anxiety and wussiness in general -- watched and listened in sheer delight as the plane rapidly descended and ultimately smashed into the sea, it's fuselage being torn to bits, all in glorious DTS 5.1* surround sound. <heart> Low Frequency Effects </heart>. god i'm such a geek. That scene alone makes the 2 disc set worth the price of admission, but you also get an audio commentary track and a bunch of special features.

I also saw ``Thirteen Days'' on DVD recently. It's the first of New Line's Infinifilm series. Fifteen minutes into the movie I was hoping that Infinifilm technology would allow me to press the `angle' button on my remote to replace Kevin Costner with a sexy anime babe who has a good appetite. Although not that impressive, Infinifilm is still pretty neat. You can choose to watch the Infinifilm version of the movie and as it plays a menu will appear on screen with links to short special features relevant to that scene such as interviews and special effects explainations. After selecting and watching a special feature the movie resumes. It's kinda similar to VH1 popup video. good stuff.

I just had doughnuts in the staff lounge. I wonder if anyone is going to tell Jan that his zipper is down.

* It's actually a DTS 5.1 ES soundtrack, which i think means there is a rear center audio channel that takes a matrix of the rear right and left channels, but the sound system isn't equipped for such a soundtrack.
